Remember Lily Singh’s interview with Adam Mosseri? That is when the Instagram Chief announced that multi-user live will be rolling out in the next couple of weeks. Today, Facebook officially launches multi-participant live streaming on Instagram.
Starting 01 March 2021, an Instagrammer who goes on a live broadcast can invite 3 other IG friends to join the live broadcast. A drop-down notification shows on the screen of the invitee. Once the invitation is accepted, all followers of each account can view the live stream. Each participant can use an AR filter to make the conversation fun.
The launch was made in celebration of International Women’s Day and Women’s Month. Together, Facebook launches new stickers, Shop collections for women, and the “Create a Drive” tab on the Community Help dashboard.
Implications for Marketers:
Multi-participant live streaming on Instagram is a new way for brands, businesses, creators, and influencers to boost discovery, engagement, and revenue. As they say, two heads are better than one. With Instagram, four heads mean a larger audience. With each participant’s follower being able to view the live broadcast, multi-participant live streaming has a larger reach.
