Shopping tags on Instagram’s short-form videos? That’s true! Instagram now allows adding shopping tags on Reels. Reels was launched in Brazil on 12 November 2019. It was made available globally last June 2020. Reels are short-form music clips lasting from 15 to 30 seconds. They are Instagram’s in-app clone of TikTok.
As of 10 December 2020, Instagram users can now add shopping tags on Reels. Once a user clicks the shop tag, it will lead him to a list of products he/she can choose, and directly proceed to check out. This is a new way to tap the power of videos into eCommerce.
Implications for Marketers:
Shopping tags on Instagram’s short-form videos are a new evolution to Instagram shopping. Marketers should consider the option on their ads and campaign not only to increase engagement but to drive conversion over Instagram.
