Creators are the heart and life of every social media platform. They are the ones who create engaging content to make the audiences visit a page daily. Even in gaming, creators are the trigger to boost gaming revenues. Facebook recorded 1 billion hours of views on gaming last year. A major part of these views came from gaming creators doing live group streaming. As such, the platform is rolling out new monetization features for gaming creators.
Stars for Video on Demand
Facebook is now expanding the use of “Stars” for video on demand in gaming. These are virtual badges allowing fans to send creators a gift. Such a gift will be converted by Facebook to $0.01 per star.
Live Breaks During Live Streams
Facebook is now rolling out “live breaks” during live streams for gaming. They are mid-roll ads that highlight amazing plays and last either 30-second, 90-second, or 150-second. Live breaks are a video playlist of creator content, user-generated content, and standard ads. Gaming creators can monetize live breaks by adding a CTA for Stars on these mid-roll videos. They can also add a CTA for fans to join a Facebook group, to subscribe on a gaming channel, etc.
Level Up Program to More Countries
Facebook’s Level Up Program is the first step to a gaming creator’s pathway. By signing up for such a program, a gaming creator can have access to gaming tools and customized support from the platform. They can also be selected as beta testers to new gaming features. Today, Facebook is expanding the program among the following countries:
- Hong Kong
- Kenya
- Nigeria
- Norway
- Paraguay
- Sri Lanka
- Switzerland
- Ukraine
- Venezuela
Implications for Marketers:
Facebook gaming has a big potential to boost the revenue of brands, creators, and the platform itself. Brands can specifically tap the power of mid-roll ads to promote relevant products and services. It can be another option to drive conversion and engagement.
